Waterpark Simulator How Research Points Work
Gather scarce points, unlock time savers, and stop wasting unlocks on vanity.
Why research decides your difficulty curve
Research points are the scarce progression currency in Waterpark Simulator. Money buys stock, bags, and builds; research buys the tools and hiring tiers that make those spends survivable. Players who dump early points into decorative comfort while still hand-selling every ticket and mopping every puddle feel the game is unfair. Players who unlock Floor Tool, better bins, pocket space, and Hiring Level 1 feel the same park become manageable.
This guide assumes 1.0 (July 31, 2026) on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S—still $12.99—with diamond prestige, co-op, and theme content available later. Research remains the spine underneath those toys.
Where research points come from
Floating science icons
Glowing science pickups appear around the park. Grab them whenever you pass; they are the most direct point bursts and cost no extra animation beyond a short detour.
Ticket sales
Each correct admission contributes research progress. A busy, honestly ticketed gate is a research engine. Bracelet cheaters and wrong slide passes hurt both cash and this drip. Keep Getting Started habits sharp when you are point-starved.
Cleaning, repairs, and hands-on chores
Trash, mopping, and repairs award research over time. This is why the early game wants you on the floor even after you dream of full automation. The Cleaning Loop is not only for reviews—it is a point farm.
Staff versus manual work
Staff actions still grant research, but community testing on Steam discussions reports reduced payouts: roughly half for some build/mop work, and heavily reduced repair/cleaning slices compared with doing the job yourself (manual cleaning can award points per progress chunk). When you desperately need a specific unlock, personally finish high-value chores. When the park is stable, accept the reduced drip as the price of sanity.
Water gun caveat
The water gun can clean puddles and hose smelly guests quickly, but cleaning with it does not earn research the way mop work can. Use it for emergency hygiene after you have the unlocks you need—or when guest safety matters more than the next point.
Where to spend: the Research Table
Find the Research Table in your office. Open it, start on the Park-focused tabs, and buy unlocks with stored points. Points do not expire; they wait until you spend them. That patience is a trap if you hoard through a week of avoidable suffering—spend on the bottleneck you felt today.
Star requirements can lock rows even when you can afford them. If an upgrade is greyed out, check prestige progress in Stars and Diamond Rating before assuming the game is bugged.
Early unlock priority (solo)
Exact costs vary by patch, but the priority pattern stays stable:
- Floor Tool — faster, saner building when objectives demand new pads and paths.
- Modern / upgraded trash bins — less litter travel, easier cleanliness quests.
- Pocket / inventory expansions — carry mop, bags, life ring, and glove without constant swaps.
- Hiring Level 1 (Ticket Agent) — frees you after the morning rush.
- Showers, comfort, and food stall unlocks — guest needs that block happiness-linked tasks.
- Quick Dry and deeper cleaning tech — when puddles outpace your route.
- Later hiring tiers — vendors, cleaners, restockers, repair roles as interruptions demand.
Avoid buying every vendor unlock the moment it appears. Each hire is a payroll promise; each new stall is a restock path. Research should remove friction you already measured.
Mid-game research and 1.0 systems
As stars climb, research branches into capacity and spectacle: better rescue gear, more staff slots, slide-related tools, and quality-of-life for larger footprints including Beach map walks. Custom slides and theme sets (Ocean / Aztec / Pirate) shine after your point income is healthy. Security and mascot unlocks matter when troublemakers and atmosphere goals outgrow boxing-glove duty.
Night mode overtime does not replace research—it multiplies how many chores a successful day can complete, at a wage cost. If you extend into night to grind points, make sure food and cleaning staff are funded or you will trade research for review damage.
Co-op research etiquette
In 2–4 player online co-op, decide who spends points. One unlocked Floor Tool helps everyone; four players buying uncoordinated comfort items helps no one. A good split: host or “quest captain” controls the Research Table, while others call out the bottleneck (“bins,” “pockets,” “cleaner hire”). Manual point farming can be assigned to the player who enjoys chores while builders place pads—see Multiplayer Co-op.
Point-earning day plan
- Open with restocked food and facing bins so you are not firefighting zero-value chaos
- Sell the morning tickets yourself for accuracy and research drip
- Sweep science icons on every cross-park run
- Mop and repair personally until the next key unlock lands
- Hand the gate to a Ticket Agent, then keep one high-value chore loop for points
- Spend immediately on the unlock that shortens that loop
- Only then expand slides or zones that create more chores than your new tools can erase
Linked systems checklist
- Ticket quality → research drip + cash (Getting Started)
- Cleaning route → research + star safety (Cleaning Loop)
- Prestige gates → which research rows exist (Stars and Diamond Rating)
- Input speed → how many science icons and chores you finish (PC Controls, Console Controls)
Return to the Guides Hub when you need the wider map. Research is won by boring consistency: honest tickets, grabbed icons, and unlocks that buy back your time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where is the Research Table?
Inside your office. Interact with it to open research tabs and spend stored points on unlocks.
What is the fastest way to earn research points?
Combine busy accurate ticket sales, picking up science icons, and personally cleaning or repairing while the park stays operational.
Do I get research if staff clean for me?
Yes, but usually less than if you do the work yourself. Use staff for survival and manual chores when you need a specific unlock quickly.
What should I unlock first?
Time savers such as the Floor Tool, improved trash bins, extra pocket space, and Hiring Level 1 for a Ticket Agent are strong early buys.
Can research points be lost?
No. Earned points stay until you spend them. The risk is hoarding while you suffer chores the next unlock would remove.
Why can’t I buy an upgrade I can afford?
Many entries require a minimum star or prestige level. Advance the objective list, then return to the table.
